Welcome! I'm Kim Makurat and I will be your child's fourth grade teacher. After teaching for seventeen years, I still love it! Teaching is a passion and a job that I love doing every single day. I love coming to work and making connections with the children. Through my years, I have found that establishing relationships and making the students feel safe and secure is the most important step in building a strong foundation. Once that is accomplished, students will feel secure and successful in exploring new curriculum and enjoy creating new projects. I love that I teach at an IB school that encompasses what I also believe. Every International Baccalaureate school "aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect." Go Jackson!
Few things about me.....I have taught first (10 yrs), third (3 years), and fourth (5 years going on 6) grades. I have loved every grade at the time, but fourth is my favorite. I love teaching all the subjects, but if I have to pick just one then social studies is my favorite. American history is pretty fascinating to learn as fourth graders will soon find out! I am a HUGE Alabama fan! I appreicate other teams as well, but my heart is with the Tide! I love projects and encouraging creativity within the classroom. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you try. I also love to read, travel, and spend time with my family and friends. I really look forward to getting to know all my students and families. We are going to have a great year! Roll tide!!!
